First Thoughts on being elected

I can't tell you how good it felt to stand on the stage in front of the TV cameras and hear that over half a million people have put a cross on the ballot paper by the Conservative Party.

The past 6 weeks has been a wonderful experience. I have met thousands of people, seen many different issues and tried to keep people up to date via the blog.

The success today by the Conservatives in our region has been about team work. We had an exceptional team of MEP candidates who all campaigned hard - but more importantly an amazing team of local volunteer activists and county council candidates from Watford to Cromer, Peterborough to Southend and everywhere in between. They have all worked their socks off. Thank you so much to everyone, I promise to work my own socks off for our area for the next 5 years.

Very many congratulations Vicky, I know how hard you have worked to get elected and how much it means to you. We will not forget you in Overstrand or your one day degree course! Alistair.

Congratulations, Vicky. You couldn't have worked harder, and, as you say, it was a team effort from one end of the region to the other. Our County Council candidate, Roger Hickford, lost, but took a big bite out of the opposition. I've just discovered your blog, and will encourage others to read it. John Bald, Linton.

The best news was that UKIP got 2 seats .
Lets hope they do what the Tories havent till now and no doubt will continue to not do and that is fight to free us us from this corrupt and undemocratic monster.

Vicky, you were outstanding as a candidate, and will be even more sensational as an MEP. Congratulations.

Congratulations on becoming a MEP - now the hard work will begin. And, whilst I make no comment on you personally, Vicky, the expenses are said to make the Westminster scandal look like small change.

If you have a mortgage, pay it off is my advice. Ducks and moats are overrated.

Good luck in your new post.

Watched you on the Anglia part of The Pol. show you were great, what int. times we live in. Just read Anne Mcelvoy on her blog re labarators, if only we could have honest debate, bring it on DC. Lets encourage honest debate
Good luck with EuropE. I have a good friend who was v. inv. with UKIP but became v. disillusioned by N.G. He stood in Guildford as cand. in 2005 and really saw N.G.& his ego in action! He knows where his skeletons are only a matter of time before he implodes...
Very best wishes from Margaret, Woodbridge

See Cambridge News or Standards Board for England web site.
So its not just Simon Heffer who doesnt know how to speak to people !

Vic, belated but heartfelt public congratulations.
When Vic first decided to go into politics I sought the views of her wise and thoughtful husband on the plan: he told me he supported it fully, and that Vic had the three attributes needed - she's not afraid to speak her mind (!), she's got bags of energy, and he knows she's got integrity through and through. I second that and believe the East of England has got an MEP who will serve it well. Well done Vic x x Lucy (declaration of conflicts of interest:I am and always have been her admiring sister)

My congratulations are also belated, as I am in the middle of house-selling and things are somewhat chaotic here; but I am so pleased at this result.

I am now beaming like the Joker or Enterprise's Dr Phlox :-)))
